I'm currently a senior in high school, and I've been playing on a Bach 6 1/2 AL for 6 years and I'm looking to buy a new mouthpiece. I often find my tone too bright for orchestral playing and maybe something with a deeper cup might benefit me. If there's any trombone guru knowledge y'all could impress upon me that would be super cool. The horn I play is a Yamaha 446G medium shank if that helps. Thanks a bunch!

A small shank 5G might be your best bet.

I’m always a fan of Hammond Design and Doug Elliott mouthpieces!

I find it odd that Yamaha lists the Yamaha 446G as "medium shank" on their website.

I'll second a 5Gish size mouthpiece. Most brands have something that size.
Am I a trombone player who plays euphonium, or a euphonium player who plays trombone?

Re: Orchestral mouthpiece recommendations
What does your trombone teacher say about your sound?
Often what we think we hear behind the bell is not what an audience member hears
As for Guru’s we have Doug Elliott, with his knowledge of chops and his 3 piece system you can in a way custom fit the mouthpiece to you and your horn.
So you can keep the same size rim and go for a deeper cup, but working with Doug you may find as many do (no me I play your rim size as it’s best for me) a larger rim will make a huge improvement.
