Wacking trombone bells with spoons?

Okay, so is it my imagination, or is the trombone section behind George Roberts hitting their bells with spoons at 00:59?
That's one that I've never seen before...

To me this sounds like the drummer's hitting the bell of the cymbal. The bone players probably "make show"

It's kind of hard to see but I think they're hitting either a mic stand or something that's actually in front of them.
