fantastic upstream video

Post by GabrielRice »

I know, I know, it's a trumpet video...but it's so obvious how high-functioning his embouchure is, how beautifully he is dialed in to the way airstream angle changes with the register.

Very nice! Upstream is really a lot more common than most people think.

Nice find! I especially like finding examples of upstream brass players who play classical music. Often when I describe upstream embouchures to orchestral brass musicians I get a response along the lines of, "That's a jazz thing, but it doesn't work for classical playing." Due to the nature of the musical styles, you're going to see closeup video/photos of jazz brass players more often than an orchestral brass player and in a context that is better for guessing the musician's embouchure type. It's nice to have classical examples to point towards.
