Which new 42 slide to purchase

Happy New Year!!
I am playing a Bach 42 G* bell with a 50 slide. I am going to treat myself to a new 42 slide. I am interested in players opinions of the :
Brass standard vs Light weight nickel/silver
Standard leadpipe vs screw in options
The Horn Guys offer 3 different thread options
Hickeys sells factory leadpipes "clamp style" also screw in leadpipes

Has anyone had experience with any of the above?
Thanks

Does the Shires dual bore slide fit the Bach 42 and if so does it effect the upper register and intonation?

Thanks
Randy

I assume your horn has the LT50 slide- the nickel one with no oversleeves. That's the common pairing with the 42G* bell.

In that case, an LT42 slide would probably be the ticket.

Shires slides will fit with an Edwards tenon swap, not too difficult a procedure. I probably wouldn't get a dual bore though.

I like dual bores but they aren't for everybody. If you are okay on a 562/562 slide, the 547/562 should just basically be easier than the 562. I really like dual bores though so take that with a pinch of salt. Depends on if you're going for contrast or what. The "wide" slides that Shires sells are their most popular, which are single bore with a wide, but not bass bore slide. A shires dual bore would invariably have the "bass" crook and so the difference would be less than if you went with something like a wide crook.

I successfully did that for a couple of years—Shires .547/.562 slide with a Bach 42 bell (corporation era/late 70s). It was just a tiny bit loose and slipped occasionally at first, but after a while the combo “broke in” and rarely slipped.

I believe the Peter Steiner slide comes as a 42 in yellow brass without the sleeves. That would receive my vote.
