new record in a water tank

Post by mbarbier »

Hey y'all!

Bit slow in sharing this, but just wanted to share this new record I'd put out: https://sofamusic.bandcamp.com/album/threads

recorded it at the Tank Center for Sonic Arts in Rangley, Colorado in late 2020 (spent a lot of lock down at my mom in law's farm not too far away). It's a seven story water tank that was brought over the Rockies and then abandoned when they realized they hadn't poured a foundation for it...which is a very strange thing to forget. But it got turned into a recording studio a few years back. 20+ second reverb.

It's a record of my own stuff for trombone and euphonium, kind of a mix of somewhat written out and improvised. Did a second one a few months later that's trombone and bagpipes that will hopefully be out in a few months.

The bandcamp just has a few track for preview, but the whole thing can be heard here: https://soundcloud.com/mattiebarbier/se ... al_sharing

Obviously all pretty inspired by getting Stuart Dempster records as a teenager!

Fantastic! Is it only the euphonium that was prepared, or the trombone too? And what's the brass equivalent of rubber and screws between the strings?

Thank you so much! Just the euphonium on tracks 1 and 4, the rest is just playing though I used a mel-o-wah on track 2.

The current equivalent of rubber and screws is mostly an old mouthpiece I machined to thread a tenor sax mp into...so sadly have no strings to prepare, was able to channel a bit of the hardware store still 😂😂
