Wanted: Martin TR4501 Urbie Green
Hi Guys 'n' Gals,
this is my first post so go easy on me!
I'm returning to the instrument after a 40 year break and am currently playing on a Jupiter Fedchok. It's a great instrument but not 'The One' (you know how it is!).
In my youth I played mainly ion a Conn 6H and a King 3B. But I recall trying a Martin 'Urbie Green' that had been lent to a friend whilst his instrument was in for repair. It blew me away but I could nowhere near afford one at the time.
So I'm looking to buy one now. Must be in good condition and in the UK (as that's where I'm based). Any pointers or advice gratefully received.
Cheers, Steve

You’ll need three posts approved by an admin before people can contact you. But you already have one now!

Prozone has had this for ages, but they suggest the slide has issues and for that price it shouldn't.

Sure does, looks like you made a post elsewhere too so you should be good to go. If yo ucan send me a pm (you're welcome to test on me) then others can PM you as well. Don't be confused by the '"outbox" terminology. That is essentially your "sent mail" folder then when someone reads it, it'll be in the sent items folder. Legacy reasons with the software we run.

Welcome Scruffy.
I had a friend in high school who had the only UG I have ever seen or played.
(I too was out of the music playing scene for many, many years...
)
To this day I still remember how much I liked that horn.
If no one else has said anything yet, Wessex makes a replica of the 4501
I have not had a chance to play one but have heard good things.
Others on this site with actual experience may offer some real information about it.
It at least looks good on their website.

Re: Wanted: Martin TR4501 Urbie Green
I owned a Wessex 4501 (Chinese copy, not a Martin). It just felt like a perfectly natural horn from the time I picked it up. Very nice instrument. Played really well. It was one of those horns that I probably should have kept. The quality of playing you could get out of it vs the money I had into it meant that I really didn't need to sell it. There was nothing really special about it, it just played the way you wanted it to.

Hi - apologies for the delayed reply. I didn’t pursue a 4501 any further. I’ve postponed the trombone due to a medical
procedure.
Back on it now and still in the hunt!
