I believe a number of members of this forum know Chip Hoehler, so thought would let you know the sad news that he is very seriously ill in hospital after suffering a brain hemorrhage while doing what he loves most, playing trombone.

I am sure you will join me in praying for his full recovery.

This is a big shock and very, very sad. If you speak to him, please send him my very best wishes for a speedy recovery. Such a gentleman.

Chip is such a strong voice for Wessex, and I love reading what he has to say about the work you all are doing there. Despite what I had initially posted about my thoughts on the concept of what Wessex does, Chip tirelessly continues to respond in such a positive and informative way to everyone that I've long since changed my ignorance regarding Wessex to that of wanting to try out some of their trombones and euphs. All because of what he keeps writing.

I hope that he pulls through and that he will soon tell us all himself that he is doing better here on the forum. I'll be keeping him in my thoughts.

This is so sad.

He was the bandleader on the SS Norway for years. I was in the band for 6 months in the late 80's. He was very encouraging to me, giving me tips on playing lead bone (from his vast experience).

I visited him and Jonathon when my wife and I were in London a couple of years ago. I pray he pulls through.

I play a Bach 6 3/4C that he played for years. He gave it to me some time ago.

I know Chip, thanks to this forum. He is a very good friend for a few years, a friend of my whole family.
Chip is a genuinely kind and caring person, yes such a gentleman. I have been in shock since I learned this sad news.
All my thoughts and wishes are for his speedy and complete recovery.

Chip is still in a coma, but for the first time for 5 days breathed unaided today - so that must be a good sign.

I will update if any major change to his condition

I was totally shocked when Jonathan told me that Chip is in hospital.
One week ago we were sitting together in my garden and had a great time, meeting the first time in person after a longtime email friendship, talking about instruments, testing trombones and simply enjoyed life.

It is nearly unbelievable. I am feeling so terribly sad.

Chip is such a great guy and wonderful person.

I send him all my prayers and thoughts. Hope he will recover and pull through this hard time.

I have just heard today that Chip is showing some signs of improvement. He has been seen to open his eyes and move his hand - although still cannot talk.

He has been moved from intensive care to rehabilitation ward.

I'll be sending prayers for Chip daily.  On the few occasions we've communicated he seemed happy to offer guidance with kind words and a sweet spirit.

Jonathan, Thank you for the update.  I had the opportunity to email with Chip even before I joined the Forum. Seems like a real class act.  His voice is greatly missed on the Forum.

He is in our thoughts and prayers.  Best Wishes for his recovery.
