Unwrapped trombone?

Any forum members here who have tried unwrapping a trombone bell--i.e. unsoldering the bell braces, then straightening the tuning slide (or fabricating a straight section)? It's obviously completely impractical from a performance aspect, but really interesting in terms of understanding how the horn functions.

I'd like to see it! Like a backwards herald trumpet.

Irv Wagner had that done and showed it at the ITF many years ago. I think it was a Bach 12.

The University of Oklahoma trombone workshop is this weekend. I'll try to remember to ask Doc about this horn while I'm there.
