Hardell USA Trombone
Bought this trombone on Craigslist. I'm assuming it’s a stencil - but of what? Anyone heard of Hardell USA? Mouthpiece receiver is smaller diameter. Slide bore is about.483. Heavy slide but sounds pretty decent with a lot of core.

Short cork barrels, small bore, undersized lead pipe? I’m thinking Czech.

I had a horn that was labeled "Jenkins" that had a similar appearance and playing characteristics. No idea about its source either but thought worth mentioning on the off chance it helps some dots connect.

From what I read J. W. Jenkins was a woodwind and brasswind manufacturer in the 1920s. Maybe a Hardell is a Jenkins stencil?Matt K wrote: Sat Dec 04, 2021 5:39 am I had a horn that was labeled "Jenkins" that had a similar appearance and playing characteristics. Can you refer me to your source? All of the information I found is focused on their retail operation (which was quite pretty large at one time) and music publishing, with only a passing mention of their manufacturing operations (and then only to guitars and mandolins).Kingfan wrote: Sat Dec 04, 2021 7:58 amFrom what I read J. As a side note, I noticed that the various articles I found can't seem to agree on how many floors the building had - though I think that arises from the question of whether the mezzanine level counts as a "floor".

I think that's an error on Kenton's part; you see Jenkins listed as a manufacturer in several places in the table, but only as a retailer for Cardinal (violin strings) - and that entry is replicated elsewhere in the table, but with Jenkins as a manufacturer.Kingfan wrote: Sat Dec 04, 2021 11:29 amHappy to!

Its also possible that its the reverse. Or that Hardell and Jenkins were, themselves, both stencils of something!

Pretty certain that both are private label stencils made somewhere in what is now the Czech Republic.Matt K wrote: Wed Dec 08, 2021 4:54 am Its also possible that its the reverse. Or that Hardell and Jenkins were, themselves, both stencils of something!
