I have a 6H, vintage 1952, with an 8" bell. The slide was rebuilt by Dana Hofer, and is very nice. I want to try that slide with a 7.5 bell. My understanding is that Conn made the horn with that bell until about 1950, but I don't know that to be a fact. So my question is whether a 7.5" Conn 6H bell even exists, and if not, is there a nice, comparable bell that would interchange without having to modify?

Conn 77H bell is 7 1/2 inches and fits. Actually the 77H was sold as a step up horn, but is very similar to the 6H. Same bore slide .500 inch, most parts of the two horns are the same, but 77H less nickel trim, doesn't so called reversed tuning slide, and the smaller bell. I have one and the sound is bright, clear and less broad than the 6H. You can also find a 77H for less than a good 6H.

Don’t discount an old Conn Director bell! I have a couple of Director bells that play great with a (admittedly great playing) 4H slide.
