Rath 00 series

Post by JCBone »

Just curious, does any have any experience with these. Are they just non modular raths or are they like the shires q series and are are built in china? I noticed Thomann has tge R900 for less then 3k which seems like an amazing deal.

Made in China, commercially analogous to the Shires Qs, quality control done in the UK.

You get what you pay for - and I mean that neutrally. At this price point, you're either looking at Chinese-made new, or American/Japanese/European used. Institutions and some individuals may prefer to buy new.

There are already threads about this:

I'm sure there are some pros out there that play the 00 series Rath but personally I do not know anyone who does. I do, however, know several pros who play the Shires Q series and I've heard very positive feedback. Brand new you can buy a Q Series from The Brass Exchange(I don't work there) for about $3700. Something to think about.

The shires Q series are insanely good for the price, but im sure if youre buying from a major store they will have a return policy if you dont like it. If youre looking for a good bass, i would just add another valve to your yamaha

Truth is I'm not a fan of how my yamaha plays and I don't think it would be worth it considering that it's pretty beat up. I'm probably going to get the shires but I might have an oppurtunity to borrow a good bass at least for a little while.

I bought an R900 last year as they offer them on 0% finance in the UK. I only use the instrument infrequently and can't call myself a real Bass Trombonist, but it makes a beautiful sound.

I also played a John Packer (JP333) and a Yamaha 620G, the difference between the JP333 and the R900 was huge, but the Rath is £700 more expensive, I also thought that the R900 sounded almost as good as the Yamaha, but the Yamaha is £600 more.

The build quality is fantastic and the valve action actually puts my Conn 88HT to shame!

Pretty happy with my purchase.
