I received a New GB5-3G today. I have a GC5-2Y TIS that I like a lot but have played the GB a couple of times and liked it at least as much and maybe better. The balance is a little different and is more comfortable for me to hold. Playing wise they both play very easy with the GC maybe slightly more responsive. Sound wise the GB is a little darker but overly much and you can still light it up when needed. The biggest difference is the slide and even though the TIS is not nearly as heavy as in the old days the new slide is lighter and more nimble. Both horns are extremely well built and even though I like the new ax a little better, if I were told I had to play the GC I could easily live with that.

If I wasn't in the process of ordering a Curran Shires Bass, I'd probably go with a GC5 or GB5 myself. Such good bass trombones.

Greenhoe definitely has the best looking 2 rotary valve bass wrap.

I like the cool ferrules, but all that bracing... edge bracing just seems excessive to me. My Kanstul has virtually no bracing in the valve tubing. Much less weight. I have played a Greenhoe, though, and like how they play.

All the better to keep those tight tolerance valves working for longer, as well as the response. It's not all just to waste brace parts!

Braces are a good thing if used correctly. They're being used correctly here.

It all depends on where the braces are attached. These instruments are not over-braced. It's all in the design.

No, I recognize that the Greenhoe is a great horn, just that it contrasts with other design philosophies like Rath amd Kanstul, which are also great instruments.

fwbassbone! So did you "order blindly" or did you try various setups before you purchased?

WGWTR180 I had played this exact model at ITF in '19 then again at the factory when I was there to pick up a nickel silver leadpipe for my other Greenhoe. I like the nickel pipe and will probably have them make one for this ax.

An update on the new Greenhoe. I like it, and it will be my main horn going forward. Fits in well with the brass band and maybe I'll get to find out how it does in big band. Looking forward to the gigs coming back.
