Lead pipe storage

Post by ttf_wayne88ny »

When I order a lead pipe online, it typically comes in a short gray rigid tube for protection.  I would like to make something similar for my spare bass trombone lead pipes.  I've looked at PVC pipe, but it only seems to be available in 1/2" and 3/4" ID, neither of which will work.  I'd like to find something with a 5/8" ID.  Any suggestions?

kind of pricey, but for the cost of leadpipes it might be worth it.https://www.interstateplastics.com/Polycarbonate-Clear-Tube-POLCE.php?kitoptionpk=497&src=adwordspla&utm_source=adwordsfroogle&utm_campaign=adwordsfroogle&utm_medium=na&utm_content=plastic+tubings-POLCE&keyword=GOOGLEPLA-tubings-POLCE-kits497&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIjazNhv__1AIVRLjACh17KwQhEAQYASABEgIrjvD_BwE
With 10ft you could get plenty of pieces out of it. Not sure what else other than using 3/4 and wrapping the pipes in soft foam or fabric

I like the idea of lead pipe (as in Flint, Michigan) for your leadpipes Image Image

Well the bass pipes that I've ordered have come in PVC piping so it must be available somewhere.

Why won't 3/4 work? Ive used that for shipping leadpipe before. Tape up both ends and it ends up at it's destination fine. When shipping I put a piece of foam between the leadpipe and pvc but for storage it won't really wobble too much hopefully sitting in a drawer

I put my leadpipes on mouthpieces I'm not using on my shelf on a cloth. Not very safe if anything gets knocked by chance, though...

PVC electrical conduit is sized differently to PVC pipe.

Pipe dimensions are nominal bore.

Conduit dimensions are based on the outside diameter.

You might find something closer to what you want in that range.

3/4" ID should be a lead pipe cinch.
