WTB: contrabass

Open to different valve configurations, etc... but not interested in a Chinese horn. Send me what you’ve got for sale, PM or email is fine. Thanks!

You'll either pay several thousand for a Chinese copy/clone OR many thousands for a better quality instrument. If you just want a toy to have save yourself some $$ and go the cheaper route.

Yeah, I hear you. Definitely a toy/interest, not making any money with it. But I’d like to find one kind of in the sweet spot of around $4-$5k.

Noah Gladstone has two for sale around the top of that range — anyone have an opinion about either of those? Ones an Alexander and the other is unmarked, but likely an Enders, I believe.

Does Rath still make their conversion kits? For that kind of price, I'd be tempted to go with them (I notice you have an R9 which is why I mention this). That way, you wouldn't have to buy the whole horn but you'd still be getting in my estimation one of the higher quality contras at the same time. Personally, if I were in the market for a Contra I'd either do something similar or get a Chinese one and soup it up. But I'm also allergic to doing anything the easy way so there's that too :shuffle:

EDIT: Actually, maybe only Shires offered the conversions. I could have sworn I saw an R9 conversion to contra but it could have been a one-off too. You would have to buy a slide too, of course to put it in F naturally. Unless you want a slide that only has like 5 positions lol

That’s an interesting thought re the R9 conversion - even if it doesn’t exist, it sounds awesome!

I’ve seen some videos of that one and, while I’m generally a huge Miraphone fan, I don’t think the BBb contra is the one for me.

I did speak with Noah at Brass Ark ast week about the two contras he has available. I’m considering one of those, but we’ll see.
