FS: Leadpipe Storage Tubes

Post by jbeatenbough » Tue Feb 11, 2020 12:19 pm

Not sure of the interest level in this, but I made myself some additional leadpipe storage tubes ( I had two that came with the kanstul - but my additionally purchased pipes didn't). They are made from schedule 80 pipe and threaded to match screw in leadpipes... I know they work on kanstul .500 leadpipes... not entirely sure what other pipes they will fit as is.

If there is interest, let me know... I can post some pictures later...

Would these also fit larger pipes? .525/.547/.562"?

Also, with what threads will these work?

Alas, I'm not sure which threads or bore sizes they will fit (but clearly not .547 pipes)...
The inside diameter is .546. The threads are M16x1.5mm. The ones I've made are identical to the ones Kanstul provided with their .500 horns (that used screw in leadpipes).

I'm only sure they will fit a .500 Kanstul Leadpipe as these are the only ones I have to test with. I'm going to give Ray Splawn a call and see if he has some other leadpipes on hand that we could test. It very likely will fit other .500s and also probably .525s. (I've been meaning to talk to him about taking my Bach42b slide in again anyway).

How did you cut the threads to match the collars?

It sounds like an interesting and worthwhile project!

I used a M16x1.5mm thread tap... works great. I talked to Ray Splawn, he doesn't own any leadpipes, so can't help with that... I'll check around with the other guys in the band and see what (if any) leadpipes they own... we've got practice tonight, so I'll take a few samples and get them to try them...

I'll sell these cheap while I already have schedule 80 in stock (I had to by a 20' piece to make the three I wanted)...how 'bout $4 each plus USPS shipping?
