FS: Holton TR-158 screw bell circa 1981

Post by biggiesmalls » Fri Nov 08, 2019 11:53 am

Up for sale is this lovely time capsule, a Holton TR-158 (.547 bore) screw bell tenor circa 1981, with custom flat-sided case.

Other than a few tiny mute dings and minor scratches in the red brass flare, this horn is as clean as they come. The original lacquer is in beautiful condition, 95% intact, with only minor wear around the hand contact points and valve cap. No evidence of repair or dent removal. Slide is excellent, 8.5/10, and it gets better every time I clean it.

This is a perfect horn for the trombonist who flies frequently, as the case fits easily in an aircraft overhead luggage compartment.

Great player with a big warm sound and tight slotting that inspires confidence.

$1450 shipped to CONUS only.

Please PM or email for more images.

Thanks!

If it's screw bell, doesn't that make it a 258?

Sure looks nice!

Hey Bruce, that's what I would have thought, but the receiver is clearly marked "TR-158" so that's what I'm calling it.

Yep, I have a 156 and these cases fly easily. The other perk is it fitting into storage/personal lockers at work. Riding a bus/ferry/light rail, very ideal.
