So I might be purchasing a Getzen 3062AFR. Whata everyone’s opinion on it? Thanks!

It's supposed to be a poor man's Edwards B-454. Not as modular, not interchangeable, but the parts used are the same as the B-454.

I would say it's probably a very nice instrument.

I think they're very nice instruments. If you want a pro level horn but don't need a more expensive, completely customer one, then the Getzens are great

I suppose the purpose of the horn (used right?) Is getting a decent horn that's not too expensive? If getting new I would say they are a waste of money and there are much better options for all that money. If shopping for a used Getzen you can probably get a new Rath R900 or Shires Q for around the same or a little more. Not trying to bash the Getzen, just saying I wouldn't want to own one over any of those.

Or if you can find an XO with the Thayers they are not bad horns and there seems to always be demo ones for pretty cheap.

The Getzens are great horns, especially for their price point. THey're literally the same parts that are found on Edwards horns, just not modular with them. The Shires Q is a good competitor at the price point and IS modular with other Shires components. The Yamaha YBL830 is also reasonably comparable and in the same ballpark price wise.

They are very well made horns. I have met a lot of people who play that particular horn, and were very happy with it. Can be somewhat heavy though, especially compared to other basses that have standard or improved rotors.

New, these are now over $5K. Worth it? Sure, but, for a little more you could order an Edwards.

As mentioned, any used Getzen is the best bang for the buck, tenor or bass. Also, any Yamaha (new or used) is great, as well as the Shires Q horns. Other brands of used horns will be hit and miss.

Wow I hadn't checked prices in awhile. They used to be pretty competitive. Yeah, the other two models I mentioned are a little over half that cost, fwiw.

EDIT: Actually... there must be somethign wrong about the prices. A new B454 is listed at $5460, which is $500 less than a few of the major retailers are selling for...

On Horn Guys it looks like w/o a case that drops to $4700 which is much more reasonable and comparable to the Yamaha pricewise but nearly $1k more than the Shires Q. And, of course, you still have to get a case. The Getzen 1052 is now ~$3700 which is in-line (pun intended) with that pricing. Good horn too, I'd still be playing mine if I wasn't so obsessed with tinkering.

Brass instrument prices have been all over the place, and usually going UP UP UP. Especially if it's a brand that isn't Yamaha. Right now a standard Bach 42BO is the same price (3400) at most retailers, as the Yamaha Xeno 882 and 882OR models. And that's if you don't want a "lightweight slide" or "gold brass bell" which puts the price up to 3700.

If i was buying new trombones, I'd probably go all Yamaha. Their Xeno bass line is also significantly less than the Getzen at $4560.

I'd get a Shires Q all day over a yamaha 830 or 822.

I have a 3062AF that I have been playing as a part time pro for about 6 years. I think it is an excellent horn. Of course got it for a really good deal. My local dealer had it as a demo and I was maybe the second person to play it?
I like it.....of course I played a Yamaha 613R for 25 years before that so what do I know.....

I have a 3062, and love it. I went through all of the independent basses at NAMM a few years back and narrowed it down to that and the Yamaha 830. It plays extremely well, and is pretty versatile. (I haven't done a bunch of orchestral work on it, but it blended well. I mostly use it for jazz).
