Another one I swore I'd never sell.

Early Recording with Rey-O-Loy outers. Has been re-lacquered with baked-on epoxy. Duo-octagonal inners. Slide is very smooth and in great alignment. Gorgeous, deep engraving. Brilliant player. Newer SKB case.

Buyer pays shipping.

Beautiful horn. Do you know the year of manufacture? Has it been played much since the relacquer?

SN is 286** making it a '59 horn. I don't believe I've played it at all since the relacquer.

I think that number would make it a ‘48. Olds moved their factory from Los Angeles to Fullerton in 1954.

I believe that dxhall is correct. According to Horn-U-Copia, Olds trombone serial numbers from 1948 were from 28000 to 36000. At that time the factory was in Los Angeles. At some point after 1948, Olds changed the Recording's outer slides from Re-O-Loy (red brass) to nickel silver. The deep engraving on the Re-O-Loy bell is striking. The sound of the Recording trombones (whether Los Angeles or Fullerton; Re-O-Loy or nickel-silver outers) is full and rich in a way that other Olds tenor trombones are not. [It must be the bell. :idk: ] This seems like a very fair price for such a lovely horn.

You are correct. I had inadvertently added a digit to the number when I checked. This is indeed a 1948 model. And yes, the engraving is amazing.

This one was in near mint condition, but was in a fire and the lacquer was burned. I stripped the original lacquer and did a very light buff on it, which was all it needed. It's a beauty.

Did you have it relacquered after you buffed it, then?

I have a ‘71 Recording with an F attachment, and like it a lot. I don’t exactly need another Recording, but the engraving on this one is very tempting.

Yes--it was relacquered with a baked on epoxy. It's more durable than the original, and thinner.
