-What tablets/models are you guys using out there in the real world?
-What page turners are you using?
-Do you have a dedicated tablet stand, rather than a music stand?
-Any need to look into cellular models, or go wifi only?
-What's a good number to budget for a giggable setup?
-Most importantly, is it worth it? If you have to spend it all over again, would you?
I only recently took the plunge after watching what others were doing for a couple seasons. I'm using a refurbished Samsung S8 Ultra w/ 14.6" screen purchased off Amazon for $465. I'm wifi-only, + $10 for a protective skin. It sits fine on a normal stand, and the silicone skin prevents it from sliding. For page turns, I initially tried a Flic button, wasn't happy with its reliability with Android. I am much happier using a "TikTok scrolling ring." It connects via Bluetooth without any helper application.
For software, I'm looking at MobileSheets. It has a learning curve but does all that I need. Another possibility to evaluate would be Librera FD, available on FDroid.org, which has similar abilities, but a different way of organizing things. Total investment is about $550 so far.

Can you point to the model you like? Some rings simulate keypresses (which are useful); some simulate finger swipes, which really confuse MobileSheets.

I'm using one with 2 buttons and a joystick. The stick is useless, but the buttons can be configured for page up and page down (volume up / page down) in the pedal section.

I'd like to go one step further and ask kind of a silly question. What hand and what finger do you use? Or do you 'hook' it on your horn somewhere like the Flic? I've looked at these before and the one thing that keeps me from getting one is figuring this part out.

I've fooled around with a different model, and it "hooks" fairly well to both the upper cork barrel (for index finger) or the lower cork barrel (for third finger, like a pseudo-2nd valve). This was on a Bach 42. You have to be a little careful because it can rotate around the tube if you bump it.
After that little bit of experimentation, I'm starting to believe that a finger-operated button is fine when resting or playing easy music; but if you need to press it in a technical passage, it's a lot like making the passage more technical. I suspect (without evidence) that a foot pedal would be easier in that situation; it would tax a different part of the brain, maybe.

As always, YMMV, but for me lower cork barrel and right thumb press seems to work out best.
For those wishing to make a go of the Flic button, the setting that worked for me are:
UNIVERSAL MODE:
Single press -> page down
Double press -> page up
Pedal switch 1 - PAGE_DOWN - Go to Next Page (single press)
Pedal switch 2 - DPAD_LEFT - Go to Previous Page (double press)

Any E-Ink options? I always liked the look of it and I wanted something that was super easy on the eyes. I already stare at an LCD screen all day.

I got this TCL NxtPaper 14 and am very happy with it. The real estate on the screen is not quite as good, especially the width in portrait mode, as the big iPad, but it's close enough for jazz.
2 outstanding features:
1) Price
2) It has a matte screen to combat glare and it also has three display modes; two of which are e-Ink-like
I have had no problems with it after 6 months. I use MobileSheets and a bluetooth page turner with no issues. I'm not sure where you're located, but AFAIK it's not available in the US. I bought it off Amazon UK, hence the link.
Another vote for the NxtPaper here. Mine arrived a couple of days ago. I'm new to Android, but it's all good so far.
On a related note, what apps do people recommend? I've currently got MobileSheets and TonalEnergy Tuner. And iRealPro on my iPhone which I don't yet feel the need to buy again just to use on the tablet. What else is a must-have or even just mildly useful?

Pretty sure an app you buy on one device is available on all of them as long as you’re using the same appleid . I have forScore on three devices (in case one fails at a bad time) and just bought it once. (Although my chances of reading it on my phone are close to non existent- I’m not one of those 20 year olds I see playing in college pep bands.)

The NxtPaper tablet is Android. AppleId only applies to Apple devices.
