Antiphonal Trombone with Organ

Post by neobeatnik74 »

Anything suggestions for an Antiphonal trombone with organ piece? Or anything that could be adapted? The Music minister at my church wants something and I only know full brasss (or trumpet pieces) of that sort.
Thank you for any help

Not sure what you mean really. Holst wrote a duet for organ and trombone that is readily available. (Concertante)

On the Joyful CD Tim Zimmerman and The Kings Brass there are several good tunes. All Hail the Power, Come Thou Fount and Almighty Fortress. Its Brass and Organ. Where's the music, I have no idea. Gives some avenues to check out.

Antiphonal in most Western art music contexts means two different groups playing a piece of music oftentimes separates by physical space.

Call and response is associated with a lot of southern African American religious music. One voice sings something and the choir responds.

I suspect what you are asking for is “liturgical” or “sacred” music for trombone and organ.

Liszt, "Hosannah!". This piece is FREE on IMSLP!

And here on tenor, the Schott version that starts with the hymn Liszt based the piece on, but that is not originally part of the piece:

Cool! The Schott version is not free, but you can buy it easily. I prefer it too.

Alfred Schnittke's Shall und Hall is pretty nice and works best when antiphonal (and not too weird). Played it with a few church organists and a good number of people seem to always like it, suprisingly enough.

Second the Liszt- it's quite beautiful! There's also a Peter Eben piece that's pretty solid, but might be a little hard seperated.
