FS: Various Cases

Post by ttf_Hammer »

It's been a while since I posted here, but it's time to clear out some empty cases. I kept accumulating them trying to find the perfect cases to fit my current horns, and I finally am set. Now I have too many extra cases. All prices are NOT firm, so make me a reasonable offer. And feel free to ask me any questions. Prices do not include shipping. We can also go through PayPal with the friends/family option.

Conn Case - I got this case off eBay thinking it would fit one of my horns, but some Conn cases are built specifically for their horns, like some of the Yamaha cases. This case was never used and is in wonderful condition, with a flip-up lid that lies underneath the bell section. It fits one of my friend's Conn 8H horns perfectly. It also has three working latches. $70

Protec F-Attachment Case (old style) - This case lasted me through part of high school, the hard party days of college and dive bar gigs, and some of grad school. During multiple accidents from other people (fallen down stairs, hit with heavy metal doors, fallen on by fat rowdy people, fallen off a bus, rolled down a long steep hill), my horn was untouched and was never harmed. The case does not look like it's been through the hell I described and still has life in it. Because of the great luck I had with this case, I ended up replacing the case with the exact same model. However the tops of the zippers eventually tore off, so I attached a keyring to one zipper so I could actually open and close the case. One side also has a snag of fabric in the zipper, but the zipper still works. I would have still used this case for my main horn, but the zipper problem became annoying going in between back-to-back rehearsals. $60

Sheridan Case - This was hands down my favorite case ever. It is the lightest case on the market (feels almost lighter than a gig bag), but has great protection. I used it for my main horn for a while, but unfortunately, a section of the zipper teeth around the bell section came off the fabric, and one of the zippers came half off the teeth. This makes it impossible to completely zip the case. If you or know somebody who can fix zippers, then this case would be perfect for you. $40

Skinny French-Style Case (Unmarked) - This case is unmarked and has three working latches. It is fairly old, but does not have a musty smell. It fits a small-bore horn quite well. The only downside here is that this case can NOT stand up on its side; it always falls over. Looks like whoever the manufacturer was did not work on distributing weight well. So if you want this, it works fine, but you will always have to lay it down on its side. $20

Skinny Conn French-Style Case - This case has the ridges inside it that are supposed to hold in place a small-bore Conn, or similar horn. Most of my slides fit in the slide compartment, but not the bell portion. It appears this case was meant for student bones. All of the latches work, and yes, it does stand up straight. However, there is a slight musty smell to this case. $20

Skinny French-Style Case (King?) - According what I have seen online, I am pretty sure that is the original case for my old "The King" trombone with the lion's head built in the early 1900's. As soon as I got the horn, I put this case on the side because it was very old. It is still structurally sound, with three working latches, but this is that typical old musty case. It would be great to use, in my opinion, solely for sending a small bore horn in the mail, or just to transport a few times. The original wood part that is supposed to hold the bell in place is gone, but it can still hold a horn nonetheless. $10

I just uploaded all of the pictures via Dropbox. Both Conn cases are the older ones mostly made of wood.

I found another case I'm OK with parting with. It's an unmarked gig bag. I received this bag from a friend who had it in a closet for a few years. It was kept in a folded half position during that time, which is why the cardboard insert is permanently folded in half. However, the case is still intact and usable. When there is no trombone in it though, it tends to bend halfway. The bag is unmarked, and I have not seen this model of gig bag anywhere, so I cannot determine the make or model. There also is an inside pocket for mouthpiece and small accessories, and one open-ended pocket on the outside. It has 2 working zippers, each set of teeth having a pair of zipperheads. I have tried to fit my large bore horn in this bag, and it fits, but the bell section was fairly tight, and the outside compartment was very, VERY tight (over the threshold of comfort of safety). All of my small bore horns however fit just fine inside this case. The last picture shows how my King 3B Silversonic fits in the bag. When I ship this bag out, I'll keep it in the half-folded position to cut down on shipping. $25.00

Protec case, King case, and gig bag are sold. I got one left. If shipping is under $15, depending on your zipcode, I'll make shipping free.

If anybody needs a case for their small bore horn, and is fine with not propping it up (since it does not stand properly), then this one's for you for $10. If shipping is under $10, I'll make shipping free to CONUS. International people will have to cover the shipping charges.
