Shostakovich 7th. Trombone 6 part recopied.

Post by sf105 »

Playing in the extra brass for Shostakovich 7 this weekend, I finally got fed up with the minimal ancient parts covered in pencil from generations of bass trombonists who don't read alto clef. So I've done a "cleaner" copy of Trombone 6 in bass clef with more (but not all) cues.

Open to anyone who wants it, including digital score in MuseScore 4 for corrections/additions. It wouldn't be too hard to add trombones 4 and 5.

[I had to zip the MuseScore file because the server wouldn't accept the .mscz extension :idk:].

I can see why this would be difficult / frustrating / maddening to try to play from an alto clef part! :horror:

You have provided a great service to those who need to play this work! :good:

More people will find it if you upload the PDF to IMSLP.

True, but I'm not sure about the copyright chain. It's from an old Kalmus copy, so who knows.

Great stuff! You can upload the PDF to IMSLP so that other poor saps looking for parts in bass clef will find it. I've sometimes done this for correcting parts, e.g. the notoriously incorrect tuba part in Debussy's Rapsodie pour Orchestre et Saxophone, or pretty much anything by Kalmus...

IMSLP might accept it, but they will only allow downloads to countries where it is public domain. The work is from 1941, so still under copyright in many countries, including the US.

Exactly. This is not a discussion I want to spend time on -- and the publishers love poking themselves in the eye.
