Jazz Etudes Books for Bachelor Level

Post by alberttrombone »

Hello,

Which jazz etudes books do you use with your students?
I'm searching different options for bachelor level students, something like:

- Mark Nightingale - 20 jazz estudes trombone
- Jim Snidero - Jazz Conception
- Bob McChesney - Doodle Studies and Etudes
- J.J. Johnson - Exercises and Etudes for the Jazz Instrumentalist

Thanks!

You have a pretty good list of etudes already. One thing I did with my teacher in undergrad was read Fake Book charts. Using the Eb or C treble or Bb editions is a good reading exercise.

Not etudes, but a resource that helped me connect a lot of jazz theory concepts is Dan Haerle's Scales For Jazz Improvization. https://www.amazon.ca/Scales-Jazz-Impro ... 0898987059

That's great, I use Charlie Parker melodies and solos as sight reading too, super challenging.

Jack Gale 24 Jazz Etudes is a classic.
Bugs Bower/Charles Colin Rhythms Complete is simpler and good for learning to read swing.
