Cup Mute Ring Replacement

Post by Baribone »

I was given a Denis Wick Bass Cup mute by a family friend, but it is missing the rubber ring around the cup. Anyone know where I could find a replacement for it, if at all?

Thanks

Check out the S Mute corks. Amazing for replacing the corks on old mutes. Worth every penny.

I’m pretty sure the OP asked about the rubber ring that goes on the actual cup part.

My best suggestion would be to reach out to Denis Wick Products themselves. I’d be very surprised if you contacted Denis Wick and they wouldn’t be willing to send you the rubber ring. Or, if you have a local dealer you could talk to them. But they are going to end up talking to Denis Wick themselves anyway. The dealer will just do the leg work to figure out logistics and maybe charge a slight premium.

If you’re really good at makeshifting stuff I guess you could try and make something work from the hardware store with a lot of effort (or maybe not). Personally I’d just spend the $15-30 bucks it’d probably cost for a new one if I really wanted it. You got a free mute so the price of the new rubber ring (if you decide you need it), is a lot cheaper than a new mute.

If I were in your situation, I would take the mute to Home Depot and look for a weather stripping to use as a substitute.

I’ve used electrical tape and a heat gun with decent success.

If a replacement ring is not available, with a little patience you can split some rubber or vinyl tubing; there are youtube videos showing tricks to do this neatly.
