I'm guessing that's something like... she lets him watch the game in peace?... she never says "is that what you're wearing?"... she doesn't check his browser history?

I think that's what Joe Williams was trying to say...

... I had to look up "monkey woman," referenced in the song, apparently Blues-speak for an unfaithful woman.

The first professional big band I ever heard was Basie, while he was still alive, back in 1981, complete musical revelation for me.
