Morningstar Bucket Mutes
Has anyone tried the new morning star bucket mutes?
The clip on one looks pretty tempting but having an in bell one which doesn’t weigh a million pounds also sounds great!

Ian had put some pretty good demos on Instagram of him using them on bass.

I can probably do a demo of them for you. What do you want to hear?

Thanks, I just saw those! Good impression. Wish those had better sound quality. Through my mobile speakers it doesn't really sound bucket-ish, but that could be a sound issue. But looks like it plays easily and in tune.

I think I’d be more curious what the weight is compared to a Humes and Berg clip on bucket or metal in bell bucket.SwissTbone wrote: Tue Mar 24, 2026 2:57 am I can probably do a demo of them for you. What do you want to hear?
If it weighs less I’m in!

For now I just have a "in bell" bucket for bass and tenor trombone. More will probably follow soon. And I'm looking forward to his harmon mute. Should be a great mute!EriKon wrote: Tue Mar 24, 2026 5:37 pmDo you have them as well? Re: Morningstar Bucket Mutes
They sound very good: free-blowing, relatively lightweight without losing the characteristic sound of the mute type, and the "corks" are adjustable. My section mate purchased an entire consort of Morningstar mutes and he sounds great on all of them and also speaks highly of these mutes. He immediately sold all his other mutes afterwards.

Awesome! Is there a chance to get a small demo of this one? Maybe compared to another bucket as well if possible?SwissTbone wrote: Wed Mar 25, 2026 1:03 amFor now I just have a "in bell" bucket for bass and tenor trombone. More will probably follow soon. I found the videos in Ilan's Instagram sounded a little thin and not really bucket-ish. More like a Cup Mute. But that might be the tone quality as well.

That’s a much better video! Looks and sounds like a bucket and less like a cup! I think I’ll go with the in bell model!SwissTbone wrote: Sat Mar 28, 2026 1:56 amDoes this help?EriKon wrote: Fri Mar 27, 2026 4:33 pm

Re: Morningstar Bucket Mutes
I just bought a soft bucket mute for my smallish bass trombone, it was designed for a tenor trombone but fits my Schilling bas well. The sound is very mellow, at least up to par, i think, with clip on ones which can be a bear to put on and take off. This is easy to get on and off.
