I'm taking a long recess from the Brass Band I've been playing with for about ten years; they'd moved up a grade, from C to B, and I hadn't been at the competitions where they'd won that upgrade, so I felt I no longer fitted in. Plus they'd been missing a bass trombone, and I got one to fill the gap - I can read bass clef, which most of the brass band trombonists can't, unless they play bass trombone - and my lift decided to retire from playing with the band, so I decided to take a recess.

Brass band trombones can't read bass clef? What other ensembles could they play in?

It's surprisingly common (but not for the majority of players) in UK brass bands to just play in that format. Brass banders take their pursuit quite seriously.

To echo some responses here, l've had to quit groups due to new schedule conflicts. I also quit a big band because the manager kept booking gigs that turned out to be nothing like she described.
It was an unpaid group, so was easy to leave.

I learned my lesson about doubling parts with not good players and do not play in groups where I have to double, except a little bit in my church group since it's an act of service.

I sub in a successful and good paying group but won't quit that one even though communication and gig details from the manager are spotty at best.
