I bought my first new automobile (a 1964 MG 1100 "sports sedan") for less than that!

[I must say that, as much fun as the MG was to drive, it certainly didn't hold up as long as my 1958 King 2B trombone - also great fun to play!]

I could see the justification if you'd spent £30k on a bassoon, but trombones are much cheaper.

It's not necessarily about the replacement cost of the instrument. For someone who tours, or even regularly travels for gigs, it's often about having your horn arrive at the gig in playable condition. Sure, you can replace your horn - but can you do it at 5:30 pm on a Saturday night when you're supposed to start playing at 8?
