Just wanted to share my recent exploration. Totally overkill, but so fun to play!
Olds Recording in Bb/F/G/Eb with all mods done by John at The Boneyard.
I had a '74 and '61 Recording so this is the mating of the valve sections. The '74 is now a straight horn that plays pretty awesome and was sold to a friend.
Pairs well with the DE LT setup, 2.5 Olds shank. John does amazing work, send your hown his way if you need anything done, repairs or custom work.

Oh, yeah! I'd really like to play that one. No idea what you might use something like this for, but it's so cool!

Ha! If we are ever in the same place, you are welcome to try it.hyperbolica wrote: Mon Feb 16, 2026 2:40 pm Oh, yeah! I'd really like to play that one. No idea what you might use something like this for, but it's so cool!
Going to try Legally Blonde musical this month with it. Should be cool for bass bone parts on one horn, they are pretty light. In addition, I am mostly a bass bone player, so it is nice to have the option to play my tenor the same way I would play my bass.

This is amazing! I have an R20 and A20, both early 70s and I've considered doing something similar. The inner trigger slide doesn't move on the A20, so maybe have the inner slide swapped, as I wouldn't need the e-pull? I guess that's a question for a tech

Definitely a question for the tech, however, it’s probably fine as is since the outer is plenty long enough to tune the valve.JoshE wrote: Thu Feb 19, 2026 7:55 am This is amazing! Has it changed any on the Bb/F side? And how is the resistance with the smallish tubing and independent rotors?

Didn’t change much at all, I think the extra mass of the horn added some core to the sound.
As for the valves, it took some getting used to below the staff but it plays great bottom to top.
