Yamaha 6540R?

Post by Chazzer69 »

Curious if anyone knows anything about this model? I can find zero info on the interwebs.

I've never come across that model. I know of the 3540R and 645, but not a 6540R. If I had to guess, it would be a higher-grade version of the 3540R (=356/456), which would be pretty interesting.

Yah. Guessing a Japan-only model. Would be interesting to know the bore. .525 or .500/.525 dual maybe?

it's hard to tell, but to my eye that looks more like a 3 than a 6.
Still searching for 5th position

Looks pretty clearly to be a 3.

Huh...even when I zoom in it's still hard for me to distinguish between the options with the wear around it. Still looks like a 6 to me 🤪. Time for new glasses? Makes the most sense since I can't find a 6540 on the 'net. Oh well.

There is a mark next to the 3 that makes it look connected at a glance, but I think it's just a mark and not part of the stamp.

Being as it appears to be a 3540R, that makes it essentially a 356/456 with a red bell and no nickel trim in the F loop. .500-.525" dual bore, solid player, notably big/dark sound for its size, feels and sounds more like a small big horn than a bigger .500". I had a 3540R and a 456G (both from Japan, now cannibalized for parts) that played identically, with just a tiny bit of difference in sound due to the different bell materials.
