Aromatic challenges

Post by AndrewMeronek »

A gig to be unnamed (it actually went great) "featured" an improvised miasma on-stage causing an entire line of deep breathing brass players to suddenly taste fecal matter in their palettes and to start falling out . . .

:horror: :horror: :horror:

Brings a whole new meaning to doing a gig with Le Pétomane.

That brings me to thinking: what kinds of things can we as brass instructors do to help students prepare for these kinds of events in a performance?

If it was *that* bad, are you sure it was just gas?

If there is a biohazard on stage you can just get up and get away from it. They've turned around flights for the same thing.

No there has to be some kind of cut off point. You sometimes see in live performances where soloists have instruments break or other strange things happen. Heaven forbid someone has a heart attack. I'm sure it's happened and some people on stage try to keep performing while someone dies (I'm sure they are not completely aware of what is happening).

If someone creates a biohazard on stage where people are fainting or whatever reaction (not just 'wow that smells bad!"), I think it's better to clear the stage. If the marching band scene from American Pie starts happening, I'm out! 😂
