Greetings all,
I just came into possession of a new Getzen 1047FN. Slide action is immaculate - 10/10. That said, there's some mouthpiece wobble with the provided leadpipe. Is some degree of this to be expected? It wobbles in all directions, so it doesn't seem to be a function of it being out-of-round, but rather the mouthpiece not inserting quite as deeply as I'd expect. This occurs regardless of the mouthpiece: I have a Hammond 13ML, Bach 6 1/2AL, and of course the Griego mouthpiece that came with the horn.
Thanks in advance.

That doesn't sound normal. Your mouthpieces should insert about 1" into the leadpipe receiver and not wobble. Do you have any other large shank receivers to test your mouthpieces on?
If you do, and none of the pieces wobble in that receiver, your Getzen leadpipe is, in fact, faulty at the receiver. Contact the place you got it from and see what your options are; this should be covered under warranty. You can also contact Getzen directly.
While you're at it, also see if they'll send you a #1 and/or a #3 leadpipe (it comes with a #2). You may have to pay for them, though...
Good luck!

Make sure there's no mulch of any sort built up in the leadpipe.

I have an Edwards T350CR-E and my mouthpiece wobbles a bit too. I put my mouthpiece in a little more snug so it doesn't do that. I don't think it's a major issue.

That is pretty normal for it to wobble a tiny tiny amount. If the machined face of the mouthpiece was exactly the same surface quality and angle of the receiver (I'm talking 99.999% the same), they probably would become horribly stuck together if you twisted your mouthpiece tightly into place. You'll see even on lead pipes that don't seem to make mouthpieces wobble that over time the shank will wear unevenly.

Making flared trombone leadpipes is difficult. Making ones that fit mouthpieces well is even more difficult. Making flared trombone leadpipes that fit mouthpieces well at scale in a factory setting ... I think you see the pattern.
If you purchased this instrument new, I would contact either the dealer from which it was purchased, or Getzen/Edwards directly and ask for the leadpipe to be exchanged. Especially so if the new mouthpiece received with the instrument does not fit the leadpipe properly.

Just wanted to follow up that Getzen resolved this very swiftly. Piece of cake, and one of the reasons I sought out this particular horn.
