Simple question. Considering placing an order but unsure on pricing and what quality is coming out. Any help is appreciated
Thanks

Re: Anyone bought a NEW Edwards bass lately?
I’ve played two different B502 that were made in the last two years. Both fabulous in sound, playability, and build.
And, if you do buy a horn from Edwards and there’s anything not right on their end, they’ll sort it out. They seem to want to take care of the people that buy their horns.

I bought a bass in August 2023. I went to the factory and selected a B454 CR-E. Fabulous experience with Christan and Jesse. They fit me for a tenor too and I bought it about 2 months later. Overall very happy with the quality.

I have a friend who bought a new tenor from them earlier this year. He went out for an in-person fitting primarily because he learned that placing an order (either directly or through a dealer) involved an 8-12 month wait, but if you went to the factory, you could leave with whatever you wanted. Just FYI, not sure if that is still the case.

I haven't, but a couple of my students have. The quality has been excellent.

Thanks for the advice gents. Might be worth a drive to Wisconsin. Need an independent valve section, but if I’m forced to buy (insert sarcasm here) other bells or items, I must do what I must do!

I bought a used 502 that had some brazing defects. Reached out to Edwards, not knowing precisely what their policies were for used instruments, and they did the repairs at no cost. Couldn't even tell that work was done on it.

Totally worth it, but only if you go in with an open mind and are willing to trust their ears. I memorized portions of the pieces I played so I could reduce the distraction of looking at music and I didn't want to know what components I was playing. Almost wished I could have safely done it blind folded. Before I went there I thought it was likely I was going to walk out with a bass with a Thayer valve bass with a single bore slide. I walked out with a bass with a traditional rotors and a dual bore slide. Totally happy and it really helped with balancing all of the components. I have zero excuses now for my equipment and honestly I am not really interesting at looking at anything else.Jbeckett wrote: Wed Nov 19, 2025 5:53 pm Thanks for the advice gents. I still tinker with mouthpieces. It doesn't help that Doug Elliott lives a few neighborhoods over from me. LOL
