Philharmonic Flavor

Post by Ramhorn »

Hi all, here is a video of the barbershop quartet formed by Glenn Dodson, Joe Alessi, Charlie Vernon, and Roger Blackburn when they were members of the Philadelphia Orchestra. Enjoy

We learned about this at IU, from Dee Stewart. Always thought it would be fun to do a similar thing if I ever played in a persistent group like that.

I say this in a loving way (because I love this video), but it's just about the nerdiest thing I could possibly imagine. It's hard to believe they did this.

I have a brother-in-law who used to sing in a barbershop choir, who tried to get one of our nephews to join, explaning to him that "barbershop was cool."

My nephew was quick to correct him, explaining that "barbershop is fun, but definitely not cool."

I'll note that that is not a "Sousa" march, it is "March of the Steelmen" by Charles Belsterling.
