Octobass sighted in the wild

Post by robcat2075 »

So it turns out Charles Gounod wrote something besides the Alfred Hitchcock theme... and it has an octobass in it.

I pity the poor guy on the stand behind him.

I have seen the one at the Philharmonie de Paris museum.
Pretty sure the guy is standing on a stool (or he is very tall).

The Montreal Symphony owns not one, not two, but three octobasses! The second and third they purchased are built with modern innovations to make their playing easier and more reliable. Instead of those big levers, there's a small keyboard built into the side of the instrument, and the frets are activates by very small motors instead of mechanical linkages.

Saw the one in Arizona at NIM. The scale of this is truly massive!

Indeed they do, and have made some videos regarding it...

"Permanent" because... it's hard enough selling a cello on Craigslist, try selling an octobass!

All the kids are going to want one now.
