Romantic/Love Songs?

Post by htii »

Anybody have a list of romantic or love songs on trombone? Can be classical or jazz. My wife was requested songs that I can practice to "serenade me with". I think she tires of hearing scales, warmups, and me fumbling through the hard parts my community band is playing

I found this https://www.trombonechat.com/viewtopic. ... ic#p284618 chat from awhile ago, but it's not quite what I'm looking for and I don't want to restrict it as much as the original asker did in this one.

I would just buy a couple volumes from the Hal Leonard Real Book series, including maybe Broadway, Pop tunes, Beatles, Standards, Sinatra, etc. Tons of love songs and stuff for all occasions. If you're not great at playing by ear, these books can be a valuable resource. I probably have ~8 volumes. I use them weekly.

From my background in Renaissance and baroque music, pretty much any sacred vocal piece with a text from the Song of Songs, and probably around half of all secular vocal music.

Adam Woolf's duo album with the (excellent) tenor Charles Daniels, The Food of Love, has some excellent trombone-suitable pieces on that theme. My own solo album focuses on the theme of tears, and so a number of the pieces therein are concerned with matters of love as well.

Billy Joel songs fit beautifully on trombone. Serenade her using karaoke accompaniment. Rosalinda’s Eyes, Just the way you Are would be worth learning.

Well, I'd recommend firefox + UBlock Origin to not see ads on youtube again ;) . But! the karaoke is a good idea. I just didn't know if there were specific ones written for trombone or non-lyrical based pieces of romance. Akin to poems written for loved ones rather than love songs from the 60s onward

I listened to this album! It's quite a lovely one, thank you for the suggestion. There were a few in there particularly to my liking

Brahms' Four Serious Songs works great on trombone.

Hi Htii - I read your post yesterday and remembered that I made a post Titled "Free Backing Tracks - My Little Secret" which is under performance and below your thread which give you access to every backing song you could imagine. I have covered many recordings using the backing tracks from this website, as suggested in my original posting, I would certainly register an account first which will unlock all tracks. Once you have done this, simply enter the song you like, or the artist and Bam, just click on the track and play, or even download it. ALL 100% Free.

I'm sure you will find plenty of romantic Tunes to serenade your other half, just make sure you play all the right notes.

Hope this helps, Al :good:

". . . I think she tires of hearing scales, warmups, and me fumbling through the hard parts my community band is playing . . ."

Haha - same here.

One evening I got out my book of Arthur Pryor's solos and had a go at Thoughts of Love. Even though I wasn't up to speed with it my wife was kind enough to recognise it as a nice melody.
So I'll work on it some more.
