Euphonium concerto alert

Post by robcat2075 »

Those of you in the Dallas area may want to circle your calendar for the Dallas Symphony Orchestra's premiere of a concerto in January 2026 featuring "euphonium sensation" David Childs.

I got to hear David Childs play live several years ago. I don't think anyone will be disappointed.

I shall be disappointed.

I have a ticket for the concert tonight but... it's been cancelled due to "inclement weather" which is no more than a modest rain.

Since they got off one performance last night they are unlikely to put this together again.

WRR concert hall has this program scheduled for Feb 23

I caught the radio rebroadcast of the concert.

It was not a conventional concerto with compelling themes, however, it was neither avant-garde nor minimalist either.

i would describe it as... atmospheric.

The solo and orchestra parts seemed to operate without much regard for each other. The few virtuosic bits seemed out of place.
