Bach 36 - where's the magic?
I have a straight 36 I really like. I also have a Bach Omega (.525 Bb/F) with a slow slide just gathering dust. If I have the Omega's bell section modded to accept the 36 slide, will it behave like a 36B, or still like a step-up horn?

Re: Bach 36 - where's the magic?
The Omega will probably accept the 36 slide without mods. Bach is particularly notorious for reusing parts where it's possible, even if it's not especially reasonable (case in point, the 36/42 open wraps use an "S" pipe from the 50 wrap). However, Conn/Selmer produced a bunch of weird stuff during the strike and may have changed specs after the strike. That said, I can't think of a reason they would go to a bass (42/50) receiver and tenon on the Omega.
I think the Bach magic is in the bells--the Omega is a two-piece bell (if memory serves it's spun on the 36/42 mandrels). I expect that the 36 slide on the Omega bell section is going to play more like the Omega than like a 36, but the only to know is to try it.
