Griego Artist series - difference in large and small shanks

Post by boneberg »

A question for you Griego Artist specialists out there...

Is the shape and form of the Griego Artist series supposed to be the same in both the large shank and small shank versions?
I have Griego Artist 5E (not the Alessi) and recently ordered and received a small shank Griego Artist 5C, but it has a totally different outer shape and form in all respects (rim, outer cup etc.) compared to the 5E. It resembles more the Nouveau series than my expectation of the Artist series. Did I possibly receive an Alessi 5C that was sold as an Artist 5C, or are the small shank Artist mpcs. just different compared to the large shank versions?

Thanks for any insight!

I believe the small shank pieces look like that.

The only thing the same between the small and large shank versions is the rim.

And yet the outer characteristics (even the rim) are totally different!

Yes, they look like that, also in older Alessi series. And yes, they feel total different. What you like more depends totally on your personal preference. I like light pieces, they are so resonant and immediate sound, however lots of people prefer standard-heavy blank even on small bore. I think it is possible ask Griego make standard blank on small shank pieces, and the opposite light blank on large shank mouthpieces, it surely would be custom order.

The default for the small shank is the lighter blank. Has been that way for years. You can special order one with the heavier blank just like you can get the large bore with a light weight blank.
The small bore works better with the light weight blank 99% of time for people.

The cup depth of 5C small shank correspond to 5C large shank or it is shallower?
