Bruckner 8 Gürzenich Köln low brass

Post by MStarke »

The tubist of the Gürzenich Orchester Köln (the Cologne symphony and opera orchestra) has a really nice Youtube channel which includes many recordings of him and his colleagues playing orchestral excerpts.

The latest one has most (all?) low brass excerpts from Bruckner's 8th symphony.
Really nice to listen to such a great section of one of the best symphony orchestras in Germany.
The low brass as an especially good reputation in Germany.

I heard this orchestra several times when I lived in Cologne, great orchestra, definitely deserves more recognition outside of Germany.

They used to be renowned (a long time ago) for premiering works.

They also have a video of excerpts from Die Frau Ohne Schatten that is mind blowing. Amazing playing but also amazing music you would never hear otherwise.
