Matthew Wright - in recital Thursday, July 10 (Lenox, Tanglewood)

Putting a plug in for the one and only Matthew Wright and his recital this Thursday, July 10th in Lenox, Mass. at the West Street Theatre at 7pm.

Matt is on faculty at Tanglewood for the BUTI (Boston University at Tanglewood Institute) summer program.

"Performing friends include Jennifer Bill, Courtney D. Jones, Ben Vasko, Shelagh Abate, Thad Anderson, and the BUTI Wall of Trombones playing music by Charlie Parker, Yehuda Yannay, Jaco Pastorius, Lenny (not Lemmy), Cam Millar, and a few surprises, of course. "

Matt will be playing some of my original music! (I'm the 'Cam Millar' in the list!)

So I'll take the opportunity to put a plug in for a 'Play-Along-With' publication of mine, from which Matt chose some of the tunes that he'll be playing in recital with his fellow faculty at Tanglewood.

I wrote music for a group The Weather People, which is comprised of Trumpet, Trombone, Alto Sax, Tenor Sax.

I thought it'd be a good idea to put together some play-along books, which has a 'Music Minus One' type of influence.

The tunes are pretty interesting and challenging, and I made audio tracks that include count-ins and also with and without a 'click track'. They give you great practice for playing in a tight horn section, and if you have any students looking for something 'extra' to work on, these tracks could be a lot of fun.
