Yamaha's Eijiro MK2 mp

Post by Late »

Hi!

Has anyone tested the new signature mouthpiece from Yamaha, SL-Eijiro-M22-L-GP? Eijiro Nakagawa's mouthpiece. Seems to be a Japan-exclusive model. I have the original model Eijiro mouthpiece and I quite like it for certain things, but overall found it not suitable for everyday "normal" use, mostly because of the small-ish size. The new MK2 seems to be a bit larger, with a wider backbore and throat. Yamaha's mouthpieces for some reason seem to suit my lips and way of playing and exhaling quite well so I am intrigued by this new mp. Right now I play large bore tenor with the gold plated Trudel-mouthpiece, and small bore tenor with Landgren mp. The new Eijiro Mk2 is notably pricier than other Yamaha models, costing 44.800 yen, or 277€/315$. I wonder if that has to do with inflation kicking everyone's behind or is the new mouthpiece just that... much more developed and better?

By original, do you mean his Eijiro Classic? or the SL-EIjiro?

Eijiro can play for real, but he needs a new tonmeister. Unless the new mouthpiece has a "midi" feature.

I saw it at the Yamaha store in Ginza, Tokyo. If I remember correctly, the mouthpiece has a rather large throat.

His SL-Eijiro-L was designed with a large throat. That's what he preferred
