Swapping my King 606 for a Getzen…

Post by Makinatoran »

As the title says, someone offered me to trade my King 606 for a Getzen 300 series trombone plus he will add $100 for it… I’m not sure if I should take the offer because on one hand, my 606 is my first trombone I ever bought. On the other, I am planning on saving up for a Bass Trombone in the future and I can use that with the $700+ USD saved to get one step closer to that goal. What do you guys think?

Any and all replies are appreciated, thank you.

If it's a 356 with an F-attachment it would be a step up and allow you to learn the F-attachment. If it's a basic student trombone, it's no better than what you have, assuming equivalent condition.

OK. I looked at your pictures. Don't bother. Save your money to get something with an F-attachment.

Oh I may have had my phrasing wrong. Sorry, English isn’t my first language! The $100 is what the person is going to add along with his Getzen for my 606.

Looks like a Getzen 351. I love mine, but this one looks to be in rough shape. Keep the King.

Sounds like things are tight. Both model are Student model horns so I do not see the point in moving to the Getzen. Stick with the devil you know. I'm a very Amateur player (Orchestra stuff), I mostly play large bore horns and Bass. I have a King 606 that my parents overpaid for from a pawn shop in order for me to travel with it to play for a Family reunion. I did not like it at first but learnt to like it after de-lacquering the bell and practicing on it to play some Mozart and lighter orchestra stuff flanked by an Alto and 88h on Bass.

Long story short, use what you got to the best of your ability and only jump up to a medium or Large bore with a trigger. The full jump to Bass will be huge. Use less you are a master of the swap most trades end up being a bad deal.
