Thumb rest for 88HCL

Post by Slider8000 »

What thumb rest do you use for your 88HCL? I used a bullet brace on my previous 88H with a standard rotor. However, because of the different design on the CL model, this brace will no longer fit. I have a Sheridan get-a-grip, but it's not for me as it makes the back of hand really sweaty. I'm not fan of the Yamaha style sling grip or neotech grip either.

Does anyone know of a more permeant screw on thumb rest similar to the bullet brace that they could recommend for the 88HCL model?

Sorry you're not a fan of it, but I use the Neotech grip, which allows for a free-floating thumb that can easily manipulate the trigger without having to support the horn. It works great! Neither the thumb nor the support is any issue at all, and all my awareness and energy can go into playing rather than worrying about that trigger thumb. Maybe give that one another try? It completely solves the problem and is very comfortable.

My 88HCLSGX is the middle horn in this photo.

I just got a Calderpips Grip recently, which are similar to Sheridan Get-a-Grips. I'm enjoying it compared to the Neotech grip I used previously. I haven't experienced any sweating issues from the Calderpips yet, but your complaint made me wonder if an absorbent fabric could be fit over the grip to help with moisture wicking. Maybe a small child's cotton sock, or custom sewn fabric sleeve.

I’ve had very good experience with the Instrument Innovations Axe Handle. I have rheumatoid arthritis in my hands and it allows me to hold the trombone with no pain.
