The Yeo is already quite a massy mouthpiece. What is it not doing?

Also, WHERE the mass is can be just as important as how much their is. Getting a mouthpiece simply because it "looks cool" or "weighs a ton" is, not, IMHO, an effective way to search for a better fit.

As others have said, the Doug Yeo is a fairly substantial mouthpiece in terms of weight.

Curry mouthpieces are fairly heavy. 2D and 1 1/2D are heavy.

Doug's mouthpieces with the biggest blank are pretty heavy. For example, get an XB instead of LB, and there's a good bit of weight there.

A few that come to mind…… Bach-Megatone, Ferguson, Griego-Classic-Deco, Greg Black-Heavy, Stork-Heavy, Pickett-Regular blanks. Not sure about DE, but I’m sure he’d talk to you about it.

A Bach 1G is fairly light IIRC, because they cut their bass mouthpieces from the same blanks as tenor mouthpieces. So the bass mouthpieces wind up being thin.

I would just have the smallest Yaris welded onto your current mp. Now that would be obnoxiously heavy.

For some more or less representative A/B testing you could also use some detachable weight, like one of those "tone rings" that I think you can buy from multiple makers. If they fit the Yeo.

Agreed for the most part. Some, like me, were having a bit of fun since the OP used obnoxiously heavy in his description. A Yaris welded onto his Yeo would qualify as that.

Hi all .

I tried quite a few heavyweight mpcs . In my opinion , they dampen the resonance and the response , expecially in the medium / medium high ranges , so I do not like it .
Anyway , the Bach 1G Megatone was the best one among the pieces I tested ( the " best of the worst"..) .

My photo in the previous post was a custom mouthpiece made for me in the 90s by Schilke to my specs and design. It's basically a 60 rim, cup and backbore with the added mass on the outside. Shows how versatile CNC machines can be.

At the time it cost me a pretty penny and the result was not stellar. My hope was that it would channel more sound energy through the horn. It doesn't. It IS great for keeping papers from blowing off my desk.

I think it was mandatory in the 90s for Bass trombone players to try something with a custom mod 60…. I think we’ve all got one that cost us extra, had a decent wait time and was pretty quickly obviously useless.

I had a custom 60 with a Bach-length shank made by Scott Laskey at Schilke in 1988. I asked for heavier...he made it lighter and told me it would have the stability of a heavier mouthpiece because he used a different alloy. He probably tweaked other things too, as he was wont to do.

It was a great mouthpiece but too big for me at the time. I've tried to buy it back in recent years from the friend I sold it to, but he refuses to part with it.

More recently I acquired another Schilke/Laskey custom 60 with a little lighter blank and "loaned" it to a student. He won't give it back to me either!

In both cases I ended up settling on a mouthpiece from Doug Elliott

Yup. Same. I have not gone crazy with DE set ups but for various musical needs and wants I currently have 3 sizes of LB cups, 3 rims and 3 shanks. That covers orchestra work, big band and chamber music and while I occasionally dabble with other mouthpieces I own I always come back to the DE mouthpieces cuz they just damn work!
