a King Option

I`m a Bach player, but I found myself wanting a somewhat smaller bore horn than my Bach 12`s.
I tried a couple 2B`s. One silver sonic that I loved but it wasn`t for sale. And a all brass model that left me kind of "Meh"
I ran across a very moderately priced 1962 King Tempo and thought "What The hell, Let`s try it" .
So I bought it. Almost MINT condition but the case stunk!!!!!
Almost NO dents and the slide is good How ever it didn`t like my old Faithful Bach 7C.
So I put the horn away for a while.. Then I bought a Monette 11 from a forum member.

This Baby sings in the upper range and nimble as ll heck !!!
I think I`m going to have the outer sleeves taken off the slide to make it lighter.
No more 2B searches, This Tempo has stepped up . LOVE IT !!!!!!

Tempos are great horns. I think the materials get it in a sonic place that Bach lovers like. I actually had a session once where I brought my Greenhoe which I was using at the time and it sounded great, but the sound profile wasn’t really working on the track. This was all analog to tape, minimal work in the box, and the horn just stuck out. I dunno. Anyway, in the closet of the studio they had a King Tempo with a decent slide. Used that for the sesh instead immediately fit into the mix.

Which Tempo do you have? I just got a 1305 with the nickel silver plated bell in .491” bore. It’s great, I might even consider selling my 2B Silvertone.

I wonder why the studio had a king tempo in the closet? The story behind that must be interesting.

I had a tempo from the 80s that had a beat up slide. I used it mostly for outdoor gigs with a monette TS-6 and found it to have a lot of focus and clarity. I regret selling it.
