King 3B Leadpipe Equivalent

Post by Trombola2112 »

Was curious what would be the Shires/Edwards leadpipe closest to the stock King. I'd assume the #1's or some variation of them.

IMO, nothing really. 3B has a two-piece leadpipe that is just going to blow differently than any one piece.

Yup, early ones. But not many in the world of 3Bs.

I play the Shires MD+ which is King 3B like, but quite different in a lot of ways too. The leadpipe matched to that horn is the 1.5 and I find it generally would get you in the ballpark. The Brassark 32H in seamed copper is also nice, and you could also try one of the Yamaha 891z pipes. In saying this though, I had a nice Silversonic 3BF that I pulled the leadpipe out of to see how the Shires pipe and the Brassark 32H copper pipe would go, and the stock 3B pipe was by far the best.

The stock 3B pipe is ridiculously tight. Maybe that works for you.

I am still eagerly awaiting my BrassArk .508 pipe ... Ordered back in February I think.

I can't wait to have an opinion on the difference between the two. I bet I'll love it.

There are David Butler’s c/f.508s to try.

I really like the BrassArk copper-seamed .508 on my 3b. Replacing a 2 piece. They're both press-fit so I can go back and forth if I want, but I don't. :)

I just got my .508 pipe from BrassArk. Wow! It's focused and incredibly easy to play. Definitely more open feeling (I don't know if it actually is more open physically) than the original one-piece pipe that the 3B came with.

I didn't go with any fancy seamed option, and I was worried I would regret that, but the yellow brass drawn pipe is fantastic with the Silversonic. Thank you Brad and Noah!

I have a drawing of yellow and a seamed copper, and I also prefer the drawing one!

Best bet is to order several different pipes and play them in actual gig settings!!

Only way to really tell if a pipe will work for you.
