Greg Black Alessi rim sizes

Post by btone »

Are the Greg Black "Alessi" inner rim diameter sizes comparable to the Griego Artist large bore rim sizes? I'm a little confused by the lack of relationship of numbers to similar Bach rim sizes, and inconsistency in the naming of rim size related mouthpiece numbers between different lines of mouthpieces within the same brand.

They are supposed to be the same. They are certainly very close. The number after the decimal refers to cup depth (all the ones that start with 3, for example, have the same rim).

I believe this is how it goes:

The NY models ranging from 1-2 = 2G rim
3-4 = 3G rim
5-6 = 4G rim
7-8 = 5G rim

Then within each series the smaller the number, the shallower the cup. So in the 1-2 series the 1 would have the shallowest cup, then progressing from 1.25, 1.5, 1.75, to 2, they get deeper.

The Griego Artist series works fairly similarly, except the decimals are replaced with letters for the cup sizes. I can tell you that the Greg Black 1 and 3 series feel similar in rim size to the Griego Artist 1 and 3 series.
