I have an Olds Super Star Bass. I believe there were two Super Star models, a tenor and a bass.

Yes. I have the tenor. According to what information I can find the tenor is a V20 and the bass is a V25. I have had mine since it was new. That will be 45 years this Christmas. I would like to find a bass but yours is the first I've heard of.

The "bass" is similar to the Ambassador A-20, but with a little more "bling". Nowadays we'd consider it a tenor. It's actually smaller in bore than a King 3B-F.

The V-25 is a true bass; it’s basically a rebadged Reynolds TO-02 “Philharmonic” bass trombone in silver plate. The V-20 is a close cousin to the A-20 Ambassador bass trombone (and a slightly less close cousin to the R-20 Recording w/f-attachment).BGuttman wrote: Fri Sep 30, 2022 11:18 pm The "bass" is similar to the Ambassador A-20, but with a little more "bling". So both the "smaller-bore" (0.495"/0.510" ?) V-20 and the large-bore (0.565" ?) V-25 bass trombone have F-attachments?JohnL wrote: Sat Oct 01, 2022 12:15 am The V-25 is a true bass; it’s basically a rebadged Reynolds TO-02 “Philharmonic” bass trombone in silver plate. Old thread… thinking about the differences between the Olds V-20 and the R-20. Does anyone know if the Superstar V-20 came standard with the duo octagonal slide like the R-20?
It’s a fine line between clever and stupid.

The V-20's I've seen in person have all had round inners; as I mentioned, they're closer to the A-20 than to the R-20 in many ways.UrbanaDave wrote: Sun Aug 24, 2025 6:44 am Old thread… thinking about the differences between the Olds V-20 and the R-20.
