You can pretty well nail down the date thanks to the "PAT APLD FOR" marking on the brace. The patent (US Patent 1782452) was filed on January 4, 1928 and granted on November 25th, 1930. Figure Earl might have had a few braces already marked when the patent was approved, but it's going to be pretty close.
Any idea what the bore is?

Hi John,
Thank you for the information. Would you guess this horn about 1930, if you had to guess? Bore size measured .4995 so I guess it is .500 I will try to include picture here of measurement, if that doesn't work, I have included it on my smugmug picture link.

You have sharper eyes than I do. I cannot see the "PAT APLD FOR" marking on the brace in any of the photos.
But the last photo shows that the bore is 0.500"

Being .500, the bore of the later model 6, that would generally be referred to as a "pre-6" with no actual model number.
"Pre-4" is fairly common, both TIS and TIB. I have a tuning-in-bell pre-4.
I know pre-6's exist but I don't recall seeing one.
I've seen a couple of pre-8's, with very similar engraving.

Thanks you JohnL and Doug Elliott for your knowledge shared on the horn. Would like to see pictures of other William Wallace horns that others may have in there collection. Past or present.

FYI, that appears to be Evan Drumm, post military induction. Terrific young person and a great player. I've known him since he was a freshman in high school.
